Simulations

CITYtwin includes several software packages which perform simulations & calculations on the digital twins. These include EnergyPlus for detailed building energy modelling, Simplified Radiosity Algorithm (SRA) for calculating thermal affect of solar on building walls & roofs, Monthly Energy Balance (MEB) for simplified building energy modelling results, and a District Heating Cooling Network (DHCN) simulation that creates a minimally sized and costed DHCN. Some of these simulations are run using off-the-shelf solutions (e.g. EnergyPlus, SRA) and others have been created by NGCI students (e.g. MEB & DHCN sizing). The architecture of CITYtwin is designed with the expectation that more simulation / calculation capabilities will be added in the future to support more domains (e.g. electric distribution & electric vehicle charging).
